Good News

Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.  Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.  1Ti 4:1-16

Candle in the Darkness

Theme Description:  Sometimes everyone needs that “spark” to be able to shine in the darkness around us.  The joy that worship and Christian fellowship brings is like a candle shining light into the darkness of the world.

Scripture for Overall Theme:  Matthew 5:14-16   Other Scriptures to consider: 2 Corinthians 4:6; Ephesians 5:7-14a ; John 1:1-5.

Youth music with Patty Lyerly music director

My Youth Group Rocks!!

Our youth are listening and reviewing the latest contemporary Christian music over the next few weeks.  We’re talking about the role Christian music can play in witnessing to our friends and offering encouragement to others.  Upbeat music with a Christian message makes us feel better when WE need encouragement.

We pretended to be music critics for  “Roll Away The Stone Magazine”

The Way to Begin By Krystal Meyers

This song is good.  Very good lyrics.  Still not my personal style of music

The words at points don’t have a

lyrical feel to them. It is somewhat chopped up.  However, there’s no doubt that most people can relate to the song.  It doesn’t have the qualities of a great Christian song.  Overall, an OK song.

It was a good song.  I like the chorus and the guitar.

She has a good message.  She also put a little bit too much punk rock in it.

Sounds like Avril Lavigne.  Good words.  Should be called “I Surrender”

Good lyrics.  Original Christian sound.  Sounds more youth driven.

This song has a lot of meaning.  After listening to this song it would be impossible not to be a Christian.

This song is an exciting song.  It is cool because it has slow parts and fast parts.

This is an amazing song!  You can hear the emotion in the song.  It sounds in a way like early Avril Lavigne.

I like it.  It has a great meaning.

Dive by Steven Curtis Chapman

This song is a great musical experience.  It’s upbeat and lifelike which makes it a great song.

It’s not my personal favorite style of music.  Electric keyboard does not fit with the lyrics.

At points, the music doesn’t sound very good and somewhat doesn’t fit in with the overall mood.  The words however have a deep Christian meaning.  All in all, a good song.

I didn’t like the background music.

Very energetic!  Needs to be more instrumental at times.

The techno intro was pretty sweet but I would have liked more real drums then the percussion drums.

The song was good.  The lyrics were cute, but my style of music is a little bit more hard rock.  The guitar was good, and the singer’s voice fit the song.

The beat is great and the rhythm goes with the lyrics.  I like the way they don’t say the same thing over and over again.

Encouraging words.  Could have used another verse.  Nice use of variation of instruments.  Cliché beat.

Good words, nice beat and very upbeat.

It was beastly, but it could have used a guitar solo.

Listing our prayer concerns

October 20th some of our youth went on a short Mission Trip to MERCI CENTER in Goldsboro North Carolina.  We packed items to go to Armenia and Liberia.  Here are some pictures of the Center.  The group stopped on the way home at McDonalds for a meal and enjoyed lunch in a vintage car in the dinning room. It was a fun attraction. Our pastor Doug was taking the picture.
